Hundreds of measures filed before bill deadline

OKLAHOMA CITY — Hundreds of bills related to everything from tax policy and workers’ compensation to firearms and abortion are being prepared at the state Capitol as Oklahoma lawmakers near a deadline for filing legislation.

Thursday at 4 p.m. is the bill filing deadline and lawmakers typically introduce about 3,000 measures each year. About 650 Senate bills and 400 House bills had been uploaded to the Oklahoma Legislature’s website by the end of business on Wednesday.

Gov. Mary Fallin will deliver her “State of the State” address to the Oklahoma Legislature when they convene at noon on Monday, Feb. 4, for the start of the 2013 legislative session.

Lawmakers are constitutionally required to adjourn by 5 p.m. on the last Friday of May.
