ENID, Okla. — NOC Enid’s women got good news and bad news when the brackets for the Region 2 junior college basketball tournaments were released.

The Lady Jets (23-7) were the top seed, but they learned they might have to play Eastern in the quarterfinals.

Eastern was in line for the No. 1 seed until the Lady Mountaineers had to forfeit 13 games, including a 62-59 at NOC Enid Feb. 11.

NOC Enid will play the winner between Eastern and NOC Tonkawa at 6 p.m. Thursday. Eastern travels to Tonkawa Monday.

“They still have to go to Tonkawa and win, which is never easy,’’ said NOC Enid coach Scott Morris.

Morris remembers when Arkansas-Fort Smith and NOC Enid, both of which were ranked in the top 10, had to meet in the quarterfinals after Fort Smith had to forfeit a number of regular season wins.

“It’s unfortunate for both teams,’’ Morris said. “It’s too bad the system is fogged up like that, but you got to go and play basketball.’’

The Lady Jets have two wins over NOC Tonkawa.

The NOC Enid-Tonkawa-Eastern winner would play the Seminole-Redlands winner in the semifinals Friday.

The finals are Saturday.

All-American Marisha Wallace has missed the last four games because of illness. Her status is “day to day.’’

“We just have to wait it out,’’ Morris said. “We’ll know a lot more tomorrow (today) and Monday.’’

The Jets men won four of their last five games to jump up to the No. 3 seed.

They will play the winner of Monday’s game between Western and Arkansas Baptist at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

NOC Enid had beaten Western twice in the regular season, one coming on a miracle four-point play by Dalen Qualls at the buzzer.

“It really doesn’t matter what our seed is,’’ said Jets coach Greg Shamburg. “We just have to play. We have had success against Western and Arkansas Baptist in the past. Hopefully, it’s a good draw for us.’’

If the seeds hold up, the Jets would be facing No. 2 Seminole in the semifinals Friday. Seminole was the only team to sweep the season series from the Jets.

The semifinals have extra importance this season since both the men’s champion and runner-up advance to the nationals. NOC Enid fell to Eastern in last year’ title game.

“You still have to get to the finals,’’ Shamburg said. “I think that will make everbody play harder and that will make it tougher to get in.’’

Shamburg does feel good going into the postseason.

“We’ll be ready to go,’’ he said.
