Area teams living with postponements

ENID, Okla. — Basketball wasn’t the first priority for Chisholm and Pioneer’s boys Tuesday, as they had yet another postponment of their regional tournaments.

Pioneer’s 2A regional losers bracket final with Crescent was set back to 1:30 p.m. today at Chisholm High School.

The Longhorns will try again against host Perkins-Tryon at 4 p.m. today.

Neither team practiced Tuesday as the Enid area was digging out of Monday’s snowstorms.

“We got some kids without power,’’ said Pioneer coach Brandon Gallagher. “They have a little more important things to worry about.’’

The Mustangs did practice Sunday for the Tigers, to whom they lost 68-57 at Crescent on Dec. 13.

“I don’t feel too bad about that,’’ Gallagher said. “It’s like playing a Monday game after a Friday night game which we have done a couple of times this year. We have played them before. There won’t be any surprises.’’

The Mustangs were without 6-foot-8 sophomore Colby Koontz for that game. Pioneer, with a win, would be going to the area tournament for the 11th straight year.

The Crescent-Pioneer winner would be playing Luther at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Expo Center Coliseum.

“We would definitely like to keep that going,’’ Gallagher said. “That’s our goal every year. Crescent is a big hurdle to jump.’’

Mooreland will play Rejoice Christian at noon in the girls losers bracket finals. Pawnee and Alva’s girls and boys meet in the winners bracket finals at 3 and 4:30 p.m. respectively.

KNID will broadcast the Pioneer game.

Chisholm did not practice because the gym’s parking lot was snowed under. It was being cleared Tuesday.

“It’s been crazy,’’ said Longhorn coach Cody Spurlock. “One of these days we’re going to be get it finished. Hopefully, tomorrow (today) will be a definite.’’

The Chisholm-Perkins winner will play Henryetta at 8 p.m. Thursday in the area tournament at Sand Springs.

Burlington and Mulhall-Orlando’s boys will try again for the third time to get their Class B Area III boys game finished at 2 p.m. today at the Expo Center Coliseum.

Elks coach Randy Turney said he will try to have a practice Tuesday. Some fathers were using their tractors to pull vehicles out of the snow.

“I’ve never seen anything like this before,’’ Turney said.

The Burlington game can be heard on KXLS (95.7 FM).

The winner will play Arnett in the first round of the state tournament at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the State Fair Arena in Oklahoma City.

Woodward’s 4A regional games at Weatherford were set back another day. The girls will play Douglass at 11 a.m. in an elimination game, followed by the boys against Clinton at 12:30 p.m.

If the girls win, they would play at 6 p.m. Thursday.  If the boys win, they would play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The start of the area tournament has been pushed back to Friday.
