EHS swimmers add 6 new state cuts

ENID, Okla. — Enid’s swimmers added six new state qualifying times during a dual with Mustang Monday at the Denny Price Family YMCA pool.

Ashley Valdez had her first state cut of the season with a 1:18.77 in the girls’ 100-yard breaststroke. She didn’t get it last year until the end of January.

“She is so much faster and stronger this year,’’ said Enid coach Ginny Shipley. “She has been trying so hard to get this one. Now, she can concentrate on getting the 100 free and 200 IM.’’

Hunter McEachern and Whitney Livesay both added two state cuts.

McEachern got hers in the 200 individual medley (2:22.94) and 500 free (5:37.40).

Livesay got hers in the 100 free (1:01.41) and 100 back (1:10.58).

Gabe Sanchez added a state cut in the boys 100 breast with a time of 1:09.45. He has state cuts in seven of the eight individual events this season. The team results were unavailable, but Shipley said her teams swam well. Fourteen Pacers and Plainsmen had individual best times.

“We have some kids that are just a little off (state cuts),’’ she said. “Some kids who hadn’t swam until this year are beginning to figure it out. Their times are really coming down.’’

Michael Johnson had a time of one minute in the boys’ 100 free. Shipley said he if keeps cutting time, he can get a state cut there.

The next swim meet will be Dec. 13 at Ponca City. The EHS teams will host Putnam City West and Putnam City North on Dec. 14.
