Drummond win streaks still going

RINGWOOD, Okla. —  The Drummond Bulldogs on Friday made it another doubleheader, another two wins, and another night since Drummond basketball has dropped a game.

The No.9 (Class A) Bulldogs won their 13th straight to open the season behind 17 points from Parker Jankey and 12 from Brady Kokojan, beating host Ringwood, 61-47.

The boys’ 13th-straight victory — two wins shy of the Bulldogs’ season total last year — opens a season that head coach Curtis Foster expected to be one with a few growing pains.

“We were kind of rebuilding,” Foster said. “We lost a few guys from last year, but the guys that came back this year got bigger.”

Instead, Drummond now goes into Christmas break without a loss, a run Foster thinks can keep on going in 2013.

“They can even get better if we go into the gym to do things right and make things simple,” he said. “This is a first for this group. Being 13-0, being ranked that high, everybody’s surprised to see Drummond being ranked this high.”

The Lady Bulldogs (8-5) continued their own run Friday, winning their fifth straight 52-36 against Ringwood.

“They’re really buying into the team concept,” girls coach Samuel Hill said. “They’re playing unselfish ball, they’re playing, as we call it ‘Bulldog pride’ … They know their roles, and they’re doing the little things.”

Meanwhile, Lady Bulldog forward Jennifer Swart is doing big things, finishing with 17 points after entering the game on a run of three straight double-doubles.

Neither Drummond team has been on the wrong end of a final score since Dec. 6, when the Lady Bulldogs lost to Cherokee, 33-25.

“We’re just learning to deal with it our own way,” said Foster, whose boys team hosts typical power Pioneer (0-6) in a reversal of roles on Jan. 4. “Hopefully we can keep rolling.”
