Lofton, Adams 'golden' at Ardmore meet

ARDMORE, Okla. — Alex Lofton won two gold medals in helping lead the Enid boys to a fifth-place finish at the Ardmore Invitational track meet Friday.

Lofton won the 400 meters in 49.4 seconds and teamed with Seth Handley, Raheem Mitchell and Alex McCoy to win the 4x400 relay in 3:27.3.

Lofton, Handley, Mitchell and Johnny Lawrence were second in the 4x100 relay in 42.6.

“We haven’t had anyone go under 50 seconds in the open quarter in I don’t know when,’’ said Enid coach Joe Miranov. “His goal this season was to go under 50 seconds. I think he needs to change that goal to going under 49 seconds.

“I think he’s helped that relay team get excited and more focused. You can see the results. Those kids have worked really hard and we saw the improvement today.’’

McCoy was fifth in the open quarter (52.5), while Handley was fourth in the 200 (23.52). Lawrence, McCoy, Mitchell and Handley were third in the 4x200 (1:32.4).

Sophomore Macy Adams won the girls’ high jump with a leap of five feet. That was her first gold medal of the outdoor season.

“She’s been one of most consistent performers,’’ Miranov said.

Holly Stuart won three medals, taking third in the 800 (2:31.7), fifth in the 1,600 (5:48) and teamed with Tyler Burge, Andi Pierce and Savannah D’Auteuil to finish sixth in the 4x800 relay (10:55.5).

“Holly has been really focused,’’ Miranov said. “She has been putting extra miles in and it’s paid off.’’

Lizzy Grothe was eighth in the discus (111-7).

“We had a great day today,’’ Miranov said. “I can’t wait for spring break to get over with so we can get back to competition.’’

The Pacers and Plainsmen will be back in competition March 30 at Bethany.
