ENID, Okla. —
Quarterback Tabor Charles ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more to lead Chisholm to a thrilling 41-35 double overtime win over Newkirk.
The win sets the Longhorns up with a chance to make the playoffs if they can beat Tonkawa next week. Tonkawa lost Friday to Hennessey 38-21.
“It’s crazy,” said CHS head coach Joey Reinart. “It’s hard to think where we’re at right now from where we have been.”
The win improves the Longhorns to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in District 2A-1. Tonkawa is 3-2 in district and 4-4 overall. The two teams will play at Tonkawa next week.
Charles’ third touchdown run was a 10-yarder in the second overtime that gave Chisholm the win. His other scoring runs covered 9 yards and 15 yards. He threw scoring passes of 15 and 8 yards to Danner Kiernan.
The Longhorns led 14-0 at the half and 22-7 in the fourth quarter before Newkirk came back to tie the game at 29-29 at the end of regulation. Bryce Stewart scored in the first overtime for Chisholm.
“We’re just ready for a shot at the playoffs,” Reinart said. “We’ve been talking about it since last year.”
Chisholm last went to the playoffs in 2002.
