Greybeards to tailgate
before Plainsmen game
Enid Greybeards are hosting a tailgate party tonight before the Enid vs. Ponca City football game. They will be serving hamburger or hotdog baskets, which includes chips, cookie and a drink for $5 from 5:15 p.m. unti 7:15. The tailgate is located on the north of Selby Stadium on Iowa. All Plainsmen fans are invited. Weather permitting, premium parking will be available on the west practice field for $10. All proceeds benefit the Enid football program.

preseason Big 12 poll
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Oklahoma State is picked to finish third and Oklahoma seventh in the Big 12 preseason basketball coaches poll.
Defending champion Kansas is pick to win the conference with Baylor second. The Jayhawks received nine of 10 first place votes in which coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.
Baylor received the remaining first-place ballot.
Texas is fourth in the poll; then Kansas State; West Virginia, OU; Iowa State; Texas Tech and TCU.

to win Big 12 crown
IRVING, Texas (AP) — Defending national champion Baylor, with All-America center Brittney Griner returning from a 40-0 season, is the Big 12 coaches’ overwhelming pick to win the league again.
The preseason vote had Oklahoma and Big 12 newcomer West Virginia tied for second, followed by Kansas and Texas. The rest of the picks, in order, were Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, Kansas State and TCU.

Glencoe duo makes strong introduction
The last time Nate Melton and Claytin Beaver played together, they left the field losers of a season-ending 12-5 Class A state quarterfinal.
On Friday, each of them in Enid Majors blue instead of Glencoe red, and things went closer to plan.
Melton was the Majors’ opening-day starter, introducing himself to Enid with six strikeouts in three innings, topping 90 mph with a fastball that rarely ended anywhere but Beaver’s mitt in a 7-1 Majors win. - More Sports Headlines
