Postponement good news for Pacers

EHS girls would have been short-handed

ENID — There was at least one adult in Enid who wasn’t unhappy about a snowstorm hitting Thursday night and Friday — Enid girls basketball coach Layne Jones.

The storm forced postponement of a Centennial Conference game with Sand Springs at the Mabee Center.

Jones had joked about wanting a postponement with starting center Haley Rasp out until next week because of illness.

The Pacers recently lost guard Ty Washington for the season with a knee injury.

“This give us a chance to get healthy and get well and rested up,’’ said Jones. “We’ll have a little recovery time to re-charge our batteries. That’s not a bad thing.’’

The Pacers were given the day off Friday as classes were canceled for the Enid school system.

“We went longer Thursday than we normally would,’’ Jones said. “I was anticipating we were going to have bad weather so this didn’t hurt us at all.’’

A makeup date has not been determined

Enid’s next scheduled game is next Friday at Oklahoma City Harding Charter Prep.

“I would imagine Haley would be ready by then,’’ Jones said.

Enid boys coach T.J. Scholz said “We’ll be ready to play the next opportunity we have.’’

Enid’s freshman game at Ponca City today has been canceled.

NOC Enid game canceled today

The weather has forced cancelation of Northern Oklahoma College Enid’s women and men’s doubleheader with Hesston College today at the Mabee Center.

Jets coach Greg Shamburg said the games would not be made up.

The Lady Jets and Jets will be back in action Monday when they host Northeastern A&M — the women at 6 and the men at 8:30.

Prep games postponed

The weather forced postponement of the entire area high school schedule — Covington-Douglas at Cimarron, Deer Creek-Lamont at Garber, Drummond at Kremlin-Hillsdale, Frontier at OBA, Waukomis at Pioneer, Billings at Shidler, Blackwell at Fairview, Burlington at Freedom, Hennessey at Okarche, Laverne at Turpin, Lomega at Dover, Okeene at Cherokee, Pond Creek-Hunter at Medford, Ringwood at Timberlake, Riverside at Kingfisher, Thomas at Sayre, Watonga at Crescent  and Woodward at Alva.

Waukomis and Pioneer will try again on Monday, according to Pioneer athletic director and boys coach Brandon Gallagher.

The Skeltur Conference junior high tournament at Covington has been set back until Wednesday because of the weather.

Woodward and Alva are schedueld to play again Tuesday. Ringwood and Timberlake has been rescheduled for Feb. 8.

Two games scheduled for today have been postponed — Kingfisher at Tuttle and Seiling at Okeene. The Kingfisher-Tuttle game will be made up Feb. 11.

The fate of the Fairview at Tonkawa, Medford at Garber, Laverne at Waynoka  and Thomas at Dover games will be decided today.
