Acers take 2nd at Muskogee

MUSKOGEE, Okla. — Staff reports

Enid’s girls lost three head-to-head matches to Jenks in the finals in finishing second to the Lady Trojans at the Muskogee tennis tournament Friday.

Jenks had 65 points to 56 for the runner-up Acers.

Gabrielle Dick, No. 2 singles; Alex Dick and Kathryn Dillingham, No. 1 doubles and Savannah Blasi and Madison Blevins, No. 2 doubles all lost to Jenks players in the finals.

Alexis Blasi was sixth at No. 1 singles, her highest finish of the season. Lulu Ruding, playing unattached, won the consolation championship at No. 2 singles.

“I told the girls to let Jenks go on thinking they’re the best and cocky,’’ said Enid coach Darrell Herndon. “I’ll guarantee we’re nipping at them. Hopefully, something happens at the right time in May at the state tournament when it counts.’’

Gabrielle Dick (11-1) fell to Jenks’ Piper Huey, 6-4, 7-5 in the finals. She had a split set win in the quarterfinals and had to go to a tiebreaker in the semifinals.

“She was not on her game today, but she still made it to the finals,’’ Herndon said.

Alex Dick and Dillingham lost to Jenks’ Mariah Burke and Alix Williams, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7 in the finals to drop their overall record to 10-2. Both losses have been in split sets to Jenks teams.

Savannah Blasi and Blevins (9-3) fell to Jenks’ Jenni Bond and Decker, 6-4, 6-1 in the finals.

Alexis Blasi lost to Bixby’s Lexi Lucas, 6-0, 6-0 in the fifth-place match. She is now 4-8.

Ruding won her second consolation title by beating Kaylee Mauch, 6-1, 6-1. Ruding got in the draw when one of the teams did not take a No. 2 singles player.
