INDEPENDENCE, Kan. —
NOC Enid was a Jekyl and Hyde in splitting a baseball doubleheader with Independence, Kan., Thursday.
The Jets used an 11-run second inning to win the opener, 15-8. However, the Jets committed four errors in the nightcap in being run-ruled 16-6 in five innings.
“It’s frustrating when you win a game 15-8 and then you don’t do what you’re supposed to in Game 2 and lose it by 10 runs,’’ said Jets assistant coach Scott Mansfield.
Chase Knott led the attack in the first game, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and a double. Aaron McCandless was 2-for-4 with three RBI. He scored three runs. Dylan Walker had two doubles. Russ Colgan had a triple. Sammy Terry, Colgan, Walker and Dyce Applegate all scored twice. The Jets drew seven walks.
“The guys did what they needed to do at the plate and the results speak for themselves,’’ Mansfield said.
Zach Postoak was the winning pitcher.
Independence had 13 hits in the second game, scoring seven runs in the second inning, five in the third and four in the fifth. Hayden James took the loss for NOC Enid.
Rowdy Dove had three RBI for the Jets in a losing cause. Knott was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Keaton Webb was 2-for-2 with a double.
The Jets (3-12) will be back in action Monday when they visit Cowley County in a single nine-inning game..
