ENID —
The last time Ponca City beat Enid in baseball, Barrack Obama was an Illinois state senator.
The Plainsmen have beaten the Wildcats 13 straight times since a 2-1 loss to Ponca City on March 5, 2004.
Enid (15-12 overall, 4-2 in Centennial Conference) will go for No. 14 tonight when they host Ponca City (14-13, 0-4) at 7 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
The visiting Wildcats are trying to end a four-game losing streak, which included losses to Bartlesville, 2-1 and 7-1; Mid-west City, 6-3 and Jenks, 11-1.
The Plains-men split a doubleheader with conference foe Sand Springs Saturday, winning the first game 3-0 and losing the second 8-0.
Christian Lafontan (5-0. 3.84), coming off a 10-1 win over Midwest City, is scheduled to start for the Plainsmen. He has struck out 37 batters in 32 innings while walking 29.
EHS coach James Peoples said he is undecided about the starter for the game at Ponca City at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
“Ponca City is down a little this year,’’ Peoples said, “but they are still a scrappy bunch. We will have to be ready to hook it up.’’
The game can be heard on KCRC Radio (1390 AM)
