Wardlaw, Ranger duo honored
Northwestern Oklahoma State swept the offensive and defensive player of the year honors on the All-Central States Football League team announced Tuesday.
Ranger running back Nate Guillory, who rushed for 1,679 yards on 236 carries and 18 touchdowns was named the offensive player of the year.
Ranger defensive lineman Lantz Mathers, who had 43 unassisted and 20 assisted tackles was named the defensive player of the year.
He was credited with 31.5 tackles for losses, 7.5 quarterback sacks, four fu-mble recoveries, two forced fumbles and two blocked kicks. He broke up two passes.
Former Okeene star Brady Wardlaw, of Southern Nazarene, was selected as the first-team quarterback. He was 229 of 413 passing for 2,846 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Langston’s Greg John-son, a former Watonga and NWOSU star, was named the coach of the year.
Other Rangers on the first team were wide receiver Korey Williams, offensive linemen Cale Fischer and Kyle Koricanek, defensive lineman Kevin McDonald and linebacker Rocky Lee.
Kingfisher’s Kyle Jech, of NWOSU, was the second-team selection at quarterback. He was 147 of 259 passing for 1,804 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Other NWOSU second-team choices were running back Courtney Jones, tight end Keith Barefield, offensive lineman Matt Brand, defensive lineman Justin Fulmer, linebacker Richard Gunnels and defensive back Nate Barbee.
Honorable mention selections were running back Clayton Smith, wide receiver Kent McDonald, offensive lineman Adam Aguirre, linebacker Alton Wallace, defensive back Ryan Hester and punt return specialist Mike Hill.
NWOSU all-academic team selections were Barefield, Brand, Wakita’s Geoff Elliott, Cherokee’s Brad Gordon, Dalton Holliman, Okeene’s Taylor Hooper, Jech, Koricanek, Medford’s Matt Lebeda, Jon Washington and Williams.
Wardlaw was honored as well.

EHS boys risk league lead
Enid’s boys will put their Centennial Conference lead on the line tonight when they travel to Stillwater for the second half of a basketball doubleheader at 8. The girls tip off at 6:30.

2 OU basketball players cited for shoplifting
Oklahoma basketball players Steven Pledger and Andrew Fitzgerald were cited for petty larceny Saturday night at the Dillard’s department store in Sooner Mall.
