Ben Smith scored 16 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as Northern Oklahoma College Enid beat Carl Albert 70-63 in its Oklahoma Junior Athletic Conference basketball opener Thursday at the Mabee Center.
The win completed a sweep for the Jets, who won the women’s game, 88-72.
NOC Enid’s Matt Guillory hit a jump shot with 1:45 remaining to break a 61-61 tie.
“We survived,’’ said Jets assistant Brian Humphries. “It’s always good to win your conference opener.’’
Spencer Smith led the Jets with 17 points. Chris Simmons had 14 points.
“That was the best game he’s played this season,’’ Humphries said.
The Jets led 32-31 at halftime.
NOC Enid, 7-1 overall, travels to arch-rival NOC Tonkawa Monday.
WOMEN
NOC ENID 88, CARL ALBERT 72
Darci Dick and Katie Beebe came alive in the second half as the Lady Jets raised their record to 8-0.
Dick had 18 of her game-high 32 points after intermission while Beebe had 18 of her 25 points.
The Lady Jets led only 39-38 at halftime, but outscored the Lady Vikings 49-34 in the second half for the 16-point victory.
Beebe and Dick were the lone NOC Enid players who scored in double figures.
Carl Albert had three players in double figures — Celeste Key with 25, Katie BenAmor with 16 and Tiffy Thorton with 16.
