One of the top young skeet shooters in the nation will display his skills this week as part of the 43rd annual Grand National Quail Hunt.
John Michael McGrath, a 16-year-old skeet champion from Tulsa, will preform at Grand National Gun Club on Thursday.
The annual hunt has 19 new shooters this year. New shooters and past shooters will register today at Best Western Inn.
The new shooter list includes Craig Nall, a former NFL quarterback. Sen. Kenneth Corn, of Poteau, is a special guest.
The celebrity list includes former big league pitcher Goose Gossage, who recently was elected to the Hall of Fame. Other celebrities include former NFL players Dave Butz and Ralph Tamm, as well as entertainers Tim Abel, T.J. Clay, David Hooten and Edgar Cruz.
The qualifying round of the annual hunt is Wednesday on ranches all across northwest Oklahoma.
McGrath will hold a demonstration Thursday morning at the gun club. There also will be trap competitions, beginning at 1 p.m.
Mike Stewart, a noted dog trainer from Oxford, Miss., will have a demonstration at the gun club at 1 p.m.
The public is welcome to all of the events on Thursday.
The championship round of the quail hunt is Friday. An awards banquet will be held Friday night at Cherokee Strip Conference Center.
