Oklahoma Bible Academy still can add another first to a historic football season Friday.
The Trojans (10-1) can get their first-ever road playoff victory when they travel to Cordell (9-2).
OBA was a perfect 5-0 on the road this season. The Trojans have won six straight away contests, dating back to last season.
The Trojans shut out Oklahoma Christian School 7-0 in its first-ever playoff game Friday. Cordell, the District A-3 champion, beat Maysville 48-20. The Blue Devils’ nine wins have come against opponents with a combined record of 43-51.
Cordell’s two losses came against 4-6 Thomas (32-16) and Apache (22-20). The Blue Devils did not make the playoffs last season.
The winner will face the Salina-Central Sallisaw winner next week.
Here’s a look at other second-round playoff games involving area teams.
Class 2A
Kingfisher (9-2) at Bridge Creek (10-1) — Kingfisher’s 24-3 win over Lexington Friday was the Yellowjackets’ eighth straight first-round win. Bridge Creek, winners of 10 straight games, beat Atoka 78-38 in the first round. Kingfisher has won six of its last seven second-round games. The winner faces the Sperry-Stigler winner.
Class A
Carnegie (9-2) at Hennessey (11-0) — Hennessey is in the second round for the third straight year. The Eagles are one of six unbeaten teams remaining. Carnegie has won six straight, including a wild 63-46 win over Healdton Friday. The Wildcats have scored 30 or more points in all six of those games. Carnegie is coached by former Covington-Douglas star Roger Hoeltzel. The winner faces the Talihina-Commerce winner.
Watonga (9-2) at Ringling (11-0) — The visiting Eagles are in the second round for the first time since 1998 after beating Okeene 34-8 Friday. It was the first time since 2003 Okeene had lost in the first round. Ringling’s closest game this season was a 40-13 win over Velma-Alma. The Blue Devils posted their fourth shutout of the season Friday with a 35-0 whitewashing of Mangum. The winner faces the Tonkawa-Stratford winner.
Velma-Alma (9-2) at Cashion (11-0) — Cashion eliminated Texhoma 20-6 Friday while the Comets beat Hollis 48-0. The winner faces the Stroud-Pawnee winner.
Class B
Kiefer (9-2) at Garber (11-0) — The defending state champion Wolverines take a 25-game winning streak into the second-round game, including a 50-12 win over Allen Friday. It was the fifth time this season the Wolverines have scored 50 or more points in a game. The Trojans are coming off a 43-6 win over Gans. They have lost two of their last four games — Depew, 22-7, Oct. 23; and Wetumka, 14-13, Nov. 6. The winner faces the Davenport-Laverne winner.
Laverne (7-4) at Davenport (10-1) — Davenport’s lone loss was to Kiefer (14-12). Davenport has won nine straight since then, including a 47-6 rout of Copan. Laverne is in the second round for the third straight year. The Tigers overwhelmed the Bulldogs 76-28 in the second round last season. The winner plays the Kiefer-Garber winner.
Canton (10-1) at Porter (11-0) — Canton, which won two road games a year ago in the playoffs, will try to continue to be road warriors. Porter has had only two close calls this season — 28-22 over Depew the opening week of the season and 38-28 over Weleetka Friday. Canton went over the 60-point mark for the second time this season in a 61-14 win over Alex. The winner faces the Ryan-Depew winner.
Class C
DCLA (9-2) at Shattuck (11-0) — Shattuck puts its 93-game winning streak on the line against the Eagles, a 42-20 winner over Midway. Shattuck has eliminated DCLA three times in the last six seasons — 58-12, 2003; 28-12, 2006; and 60-12, 2008. The Indians have a 25-game playoff winning streak. They haven’t lost since falling to Pond Creek-Hunter in the 2002 Class C state semifinals. The winner faces the Timberlake-Tipton winner.
Tipton (9-2) at Timberlake (11-0) — Timberlake is in the second round for the third straight year. The Tigers’ 59-0 win over Claremore Christian Friday marked the ninth time the Tigers have scored 50 or more points in a game this season. It was the Tigers’ fourth shutout. Tipton has won five straight since a 16-8 loss to Temple Oct. 9. Tipton is coming off a 30-22 win over Boise City. The winner faces the DCLA-Shattuck winner.
Seiling (10-1) at Waynoka (8-2) — This game pits two of the area’s seasoned veteran coaches — Scott Kysar of Waynoka and Andy Claborn of Seiling. The homestanding Railroaders avenged last year’s first-round loss to Temple 48-14 Friday. Seiling mercy-ruled Sasakwa 51-0. The winner faces the Forgan-Covington-Douglas winner.
Forgan (7-4) at Covington-Douglas (7-4) — The Wildcats were one of only six fourth-place finishers to beat a district champion Friday (34-14 over Maud). Forgan, the C-1 runner-up, shut out Victory Life 46-0. The homestanding Wildcats are in the second round for the fifth straight season. Forgan is in the second round for the first time since 2003. The winner faces the Waynoka-Seiling winner.
