POND CREEK — Cody Coats ran for 183 yards and three touchdowns as Pond Creek-Hunter beat Cherokee 36-16 Thursday to clinch a Class B playoff berth.
The Panthers, 5-3 in District B-1 and 6-4 overall, are expected to play District B-2 Ryan in the first round next week. Laverne (4-3) can clinch third with a win over winless Merritt tonight.
Coats hit Rikki Winton on a four-yard touchdown pass at the end of the game. Brady Krittenbrink scored the Panthers’ other touchdown on a eight-yard run. Krittenbrink rushed for 105 yards overall.
Cherokee (4-4, 5-5), seeking its first playoff berth since 1999, led 16-8 after a 24-yard run by Bryce Schanbacher in the second period. Schanbacher hit Latrelle Graves on a 24-yard touchdown pass for the first score of the game.
