Smith earns preseason A-A honors

Northern Oklahoma College Enid’s Ben Smith, who led the Jets to the Bi-State West Conference championship and a spot in the Region 2 championship game, has been named to the second-team National Junior College Athletic Association All-American basketball team.

Smith set NOC Enid school single-season records for points (672) and rebounds (386) in being the lone freshman on the All-Region 2 team.

He is the first Jets player to make the preseason All-American team.

“It’s a big honor,’’ said Jets assistant coach Brian Humphries. “We’re extremely excited for Ben and for our program. Of course, Ben’s goal is to be there at the end of the season.’’

Smith averaged 20.4 points and 11.7 rebounds in the Jets’ 25-8 season. He shot 60.7 percent from the field. NOC Enid opens its season at 7 p.m. Monday against Oklahoma Wesleyan Junior Varsity at the Mabee Center.
