CHS seniors make last home appearance



Chisholm’s eight seniors will be ending their home careers tonight when the 2-6 Longhorns host Hennessey.

It will the be last appearance at Longhorn Community Stadium for seniors quarterback Jason Gillpatrick, wide receiver Dustin Patton, wide receiver Tyler Carroll, tight end Austin Schultz, guard Adam Wofford, tackle Alex Collums and wide receiver Andy Nelson. Running back Will Barney, the team’s other senior, will miss the game with a broken hand.

The Longhorns need a win to avoid going 0-5 at home this season

“These players have given us years of good service,’’ said Chisholm coach Joey Reinart. “I hope they can go out with a a good showing.’’

Hennessey, 8-0 overall and 7-0 in District A-1, can clinch the district title with a victory. The Eagles have beaten Chisholm six straight times. The Longhorns last win came in 2002 (41-17).

“They play extremely hard on both sides of the ball,’’ Reinart said of the Eagles. “Their quarterback (Matt Luetjen) runs harder than anyone we have seen this year. Their receivers catch the ball well. Their running backs hit the holes quickly and fast.’’

ioneer goes for 4th straight victory



Pioneer (3-4 in District B-1 and 3-5 overall) will be going for its fourth straight win tonight when the Mustangs host Beaver (4-3, 3-3).

Both teams are coming off emotional victories over archrivals — Pioneer 28-26 over Chisholm and the Dusters 8-7 over Turpin which kept Beaver’s slim playoff hopes alive.

“Anytime you put together something like that (winning streak) it helps your attitude, confidence and morale,’’ said Pioneer coach Ron Sunderland.

Pioneer’s confidence was helped a year ago when the Mustangs overcame a three-touchdown deficit in the first half to beat the Dusters, 34-33.

“I think that gives the kids knowledge that, no matter what the game is like, if you keep playing hard and not give up, good things can happen,’’ Sunderland said. “We have done that for the most part this year.’’

Beaver had 356 yards in total offense against Pioneer a year ago, but couldn’t overcome four interceptions and three lost fumbles.

“It’s going to be tough,’’ said Sunderland. “Both teams have improved from last year.’’

Beaver has a good 1-2 punch in quarterback Sam Becker and tailback Gus Skaggs.

Chiefs host Laverne in home finale



Five Waukomis seniors — Steven Banse, Dustin Parks, Orin Goerdt, Dakota Feely and Dexter Hammer — will be playing their final game at Lovell Field tonight when the Chiefs (2-4 district and 2-6 overall) host Laverne (3-3, 4-4).

Parks has been a four-year starter while Banse has been a three-year regular. Goerdt and Feely are in their first year of football. Hammer has earned the reputation for being the team’s “5-foot, 122-pound sparkplug.’’

“I know they were hoping to have a better year last year (1-9) and a better year this year,’’ said Waukomis coach Mike Felder, “but circumstances didn’t allow them to have that.’’

Seeing Banse and Parks play their last home game will be emotional for Felder, who has coached them since the seventh-grade.

“They have put a lot of time in,’’ Felder said. “They have turned into fine football players, but more importantly have become fine young men.’’

Laverne has lost four of its last five games, including a 48-14 loss to Garber last week in a rematch of last year’s Class B championship game.

“They’re a typical Laverne team,’’ Felder said. “They’re huge. We’ll give it our best shot.’’

OBA looks to clinch home playoff berth



Oklahoma Bible Academy (6-1, District A-1 and 7-1 overall) can clinch a home playoff berth tonight when the Trojans host Mooreland (1-6, 1-7).

OBA clinched its first-ever playoff berth last week with a 48-12 win over Hooker. The 48 points was the Trojans’ biggest offensive production of the season.

The Trojans, with their seventh win of the season, broke a school record for the number of victories in a season. OBA coach Todd Kuykendall said before the season the Trojans had set a goal of having at least eight wins in 2009.

It will be Senior Night. The Trojans will honor their seven seniors — Nick Benbrook, Robert MacDonald, Ramsey Williams, Harrison Jackson, Aaron Messenger, Jonathan Sturgeon and Richard Mooers — before the game.

“Those kids have paid their dues,’’ said Kuykendall.”Some of them had to be thrown into the fire right away against some tough teams. I couldn’t be happier for them.’’

Mooreland has lost five straight games since beating Hooker 19-13 in overtime on Sept. 18.

“We can’t relax one bit with the playoffs coming up,’’ Kuykendall said.
