Bartlesville starting pitcher Colton Porter turned in a near-flawless performance, leading his team to a methodical 6-3 victory over the Enid Majors American Legion baseball team Friday at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
In six innings of work, Porter didn’tt toss a single wild pitch or hit an opposing batter. He allowed only one walk and struck out seven. With runners waiting to score from second and third with no outs in the sixth, Porter struck out the last three hitters he faced.
Enid rallied with a pair of runs in the ninth when Dylan Nave smoked a Casey Cassity pitch to deep center field, driving home Tom Ward and Zach Gonzalez. But Jerred Woody came in and, after a Nick Rountree walk, and struck out Tobin Mateychick looking on a nasty curveball that dove across the inside half of the plate.
The Majors (19-9) get another crack at Bartlesville at 8 tonight at the downtown ballpark.
In Friday’s game, the Indians took the lead for good with a pair of fourth-inning runs to make the score 3-1. Drew Anthony drove home the go-ahead run on a hot shot past the glove of third baseman Eddie Cervantes, plating Daniel Hayes. Anthony came around to score on a Jared Baughn single.
Two innings later, the Indians put the game out of reach with three insurance runs.
The sixth-inning rally started when Baughn made an acrobatic jump to avoid the tag of catcher Rountree and slid in safely to score on a Dylan Ketchum single. After Scott Hull scored on a wild pitch, Hayes made the score 6-1 with a two-out single to right, which scored Ketchum.
Majors reliever Blake Schultz took the loss. He entered in relief of starter Josh Goodman in the fourth and gave up two earned runs in the inning. Goodman allowed an earned run on four hits.
Blake McMullen, the fourth Enid pitcher to enter the game, tossed 31/3 shutout innings, allowing only one hit.
