Enid nine-hole hitter Grant Ogle turned in four productive plate appearances Thursday night against Jenks.
The senior left fielder drove in three runs with a groundout, a bases-loaded bunt and a bases-loaded walk that turned out being the game-winner in an 11-10 victory at David Allen Memorial Ballpark. He also drew a walk in the sixth inning as part of a three-run rally.
With the game knotted 7-7 in the bottom of the fourth, Ogle fought off several two-strike pitches from Jenks reliever Ben Moore before drawing the game-deciding walk.
“Grant had a great game,’’ said Enid coach Scott Baugh. “Up and down the lineup we had a lot of guys contributing.’’
The victory, which improved the Plainsmen to 7-5, was a good start to a busy weekend for the Plainsmen. Enid takes on Bartlesville in a doubleheader today and plays Southmoore on Saturday.
Senior right-hander Jaxon Johnson picked up the win on Thursday. Johnson allowed 10 runs on 10 hits with six walks in 62/3 innings and was aided by two double-play grounders. Enid catcher Mikey Bretado also threw out two base runners.
With the Plainsmen leading 11-7 going into the top of the seventh, the Trojans rallied for three runs on consecutive run-scoring doubles by Kyle Kirkpatrick and Ryan Justus to chase Johnson. With the tying run on second base, Enid reliever Blake McMullen struck out David Menger to end the game.
“That was a gutsy performance by Jaxon,’’ said Baugh.
The Plainsmen scored seven runs on eight hits against Brad Fisher, a hard-throwing junior right-hander.
Enid scored six runs off Fisher to take a 7-2 lead in the third inning. Seth Sturgeon ripped a two-run double down the right field line and Eric Ramirez followed with a two-run single to right.
“Even when we were up early I never felt comfortable,’’ said Baugh. “But we didn’t fold our tents. We ended up needing all those runs at the end.’’
Jenks rallied for five runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Fisher had the big blow, a three-run homer off the foul pole in right field.
Enid regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Ogle drew a base-loaded walk.
The Plainsmen got some insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI fielder’s choice by Dylan Nave and a two-run double down the left field line by Seth Floyd.
Sturgeon, Ramirez and Tobin Mateychick each finished with two hits for the Plainsmen, who had 10 hits in the game.
Sturgeon is slated to pitch today’s first game. Brett Kenaga is scheduled to start the second game. McMullen will start against Southmoore on Saturday.
