JENKS — With one quarter remaining, the Enid Plainsmen had 12-time state champion Jenks worried.
A terrific catch and run for a touchdown by Daniel Barwick late in the third period pulled the Plainsmen to within three points.
But Jenks standout Tramaine Thompson pulled off the deciding play of the game, dashing 27 yards for a score that led to a 45-28 victory in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs at Hunter-Dwelley Stadium.
Thompson, who has verbally committed to Oregon State, demonstrated why he is a big-time recruit, scoring three touchdowns — one on a run, one on a catch and another on a kickoff to open the game.
Colton Dost also scored three touchdowns as the Trojans spoiled Enid’s upset bid in a rematch of the 2006 state championship game.
The loss ended the season for the Plainsmen, who finished with a 7-4 overall record.
The Trojans (10-1) advance in the playoffs next Saturday and will play Edmond Santa Fe, a 36-0 winner over Putnam City.
Enid quarterback Clint Chelf was impressive in his final high school game. Chelf rushed 31 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns. He also threw for 256 yards and a score that gave him the school’s single-season record.
Barwick finished with five catches for 111 yards as the Plainsmen rolled up 399 total yards against the vaunted Jenks defense.
The game got off to a bad start for the Plainsmen as Thompson sprinted 78 yards to score on the opening kickoff.
Thompson finished with five catches for 102 yards and rushed five times for 82 yards.
Chelf tied the game with a 22-yard scoring scramble up the middle with 6 minutes left in the first quarter. The score was set up by Chelf’s 34-yard pass over the middle to Barwick.
Jonathan Burton provided Enid’s biggest play of the first half moments later, picking up a fumble and racing untouched 81 yards for a touchdown. Enid strong safety Jesse Ream stripped Jenks running back Cory Jones to cause the fumble and score that gave the Plainsmen a 14-7 lead.
The Trojans got a 37-yard field goal from Cody Mumma early in the second period to narrow Enid’s lead to 14-10, and the Trojans needed just two plays to take the lead on their next series when Thompson hauled in a 53-yard touchdown pass from Sawyer Kollmorgen.
The Trojans went up 24-14 on Dust’s 33-yard touchdown run with 2 minutes left in the half.
That’s when the Plainsmen turned in their best 2-minute offensive drive of the season.
Starting at their own 20-yard line, the Plainsmen used nine plays to score when Chelf scrambled 12 yards up the middle. Chelf kept the drive alive with a key third-down pass to Mark Johnson that picked up 22 yards one play before the score.
The Plainsmen converted twice on fourth-down situations early in the third period, one on a fake punt, but a 14-play, 6-minute drive stalled at the Jenks 19.
After Dost put the Trojans up 31-21 on a 3-yard run to cap a 10-play, 81-yard drive, the Plainsmen needed a big play.
And the Plainsmen got it six plays into their next possession when Chelf hit Barwick on a short pass over the middle. Barwick cut to the outside, broke a tackle and sprinted down the Enid sideline for the score.
Nick Ciliberti’s conversion kick pulled the Plainsmen to within three, 31-28, at the end of the third period.
But that was as close as Enid would get.
On Jenks’ first possession of the fourth period, Thompson broke a tackle in the backfield and sped down the sideline for a 27-yard score.
The Trojans added another score on Dost’s 65-yard touchdown run with 6 minutes remaining.

Hearing delayed in Gundy, contractor suit
It’s the case of contractor and the coach.
On March 21, 2011, trim carpenter Brent Lee Loveland of Choctaw wore a gray shirt with red lettering that read “Oklahoma Baseball” to Oklahoma State University football coach Mike Gundy’s home, which was under construction near Stillwater.
Gundy and his wife, Kristen, found the shirt offensive and the OSU coach fired Loveland on the spot.
Loveland filed a breach of contract lawsuit in August 2011 against the Gundys in Payne County District Court.
A pretrial hearing scheduled Monday in Logan County has been delayed until July 29 or 30, Loveland’s attorney Edward White of Edmond said Wednesday. -
