OU-Texas staying in Dallas good for Sooners

Hooray, the OU-Texas game is staying in Dallas until at least 2010.

This is good news for the Sooners, who probably have more to gain from the game being in Dallas than Texas does.

It gives OU a yearly presence in Dallas. It probably doesn’t hurt having a bunch of Metroplex recruits on your sideline, especially if the Sooners are winning the game.

Reportedly, Texas coach Mack Brown didn’t want the game in Dallas to keep the Sooners from gaining a foothold there.

It keeps the sex appeal of game alive. Former OU coach Barry Switzer said a year ago the Sooners and Longhorns would just be another game if the game were alternated between Norman and Austin.

Having the stadium one-half red and one-half burnt orange adds to the national appeal of the game.

It’s not the OU-Texas game, but the OU-Texas weekend. The trip is the highlight of the season (especially if OU wins) for Sooner fans. The parties sometimes are better than the game.

Norman and Austin wouldn’t have realized the financial impact that Dallas receives from the game.

Heck, having the game at the State Fair of Texas is another plus. If the game is bad, at least you can remember the Elvis Presley exhibit you visited.

The corndogs and turkey legs make it worth the trip, even if you didn’t get any sleep the night before.
