Longhorns, Sooners square off

By Mark Rountree Commentary

The states of Texas and Oklahoma come to a standstill Saturday.

That's when the Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners square off in their 100th annual Red River squabble.

How will this one play out?

OU quarterback Rhett Bomar has been playing with more and more confidence each week. And you have to like the emotion the redshirt freshman brings to the game.

Bomar will be returning to his home state for the biggest game of his life, but his inspired play won't be enough to extend OU's five-game winning streak against Texas.

OU's win over Kansas State righted a Sooner ship that may have capsized for the season if Oklahoma had lost, and looked bad doing it.

OU running back Adrian Peterson will need to have another big game against Texas, but a nagging ankle injury could hinder his performance.

They say you can throw away the records in this game, that emotion evens the playing field.

But you can't throw away talent, and Texas has more of it.

Close your eyes, Sooner fans, you're not going to like this.

Texas 34, Oklahoma 10.
