Local youth advances to hoop shoot’s state final
An Enid third-grader will compete in the state final of the Elks Lodge Hoop Shoot today in Sapulpa.
Taurion Sullivan hit 25 of 25 shots from 11 feet in a local contest in Enid and a regional contest in Kingfisher.
With another win in Sapulpa, Sullivan, a 9-year-old third-grade student at Taft Elementary, will advance to the March 23 regional competition in Dallas for a second consecutive year, with a chance to compete in the national final April 10 in Springfield, Mass.
ACU’s Gale to play in
all-star game today
Alva native Mitchell Gale of Abilene Christian will be playing for Texas in the Texas vs. The Nation All-Star football game today in Allen, Texas. The game can be seen at 1 p.m. on FOX Sports Oklahoma (Channel 37, Suddenlink).
OKC Barons jump over
Charlotte Checkers, 7-3
OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma City Barons scored three goals in each of the first two periods en route to a 7-3 win over the Charlotte Checkers Friday night at the Cox Convention Center.
Jonathan Cheechoo tied a Barons’ franchise record with five points on one goal and four assists, while Philippe Cornet and Mark Arcobello each had a pair of goals and two assists for Oklahoma City.
Goaltender Niko Hovinen made his first AHL start for the Barons after being picked up off of waivers by Edmonton on Jan. 25. He made 28 saves.
