ENID, Okla. — Lomega senior Ashley LeGasse said she and her team are “sore losers.”

The top-seeded Lady Raiders proved as much in Friday’s Cherokee Strip Tournament championship semifinal, bulldozing four-seed Burlington 74-45, avenging an early-season loss and securing a berth in the championship round Saturday at the Chisholm Trail Expo Center.

“I’d say all my girls are sore losers,” Lomega coach Kevin Lewallen said, confirming LeGasse’s claim. “They circled that game right there. They either wanted us to be the one seed and them be the four, or them be the one seed and us be the four, because they wanted to play them again after that first night. That’s just the way they are. They don’t like to get beat.”

LeGasse helped open a 13-point Lomega lead with 10 points in the first quarter, and slammed it shut with nine points in the fourth to finish with a game-high 25.

Burlington beat Lomega 111-103 in a triple-overtime game on Nov. 16, the Lady Raiders’ third game of the season.

“In the beginning of the season, it was kind of hard,” said LeGasse, who scored nine points in the teams’ first game despite playing with a broken thumb on her non-shooting hand. “We weren’t really playing so much as a team. Then something just clicked over Christmas break, and after that, it just came together.”

Lomega led 20-7 after the first quarter, a lead Burlington trimmed to 35-25 at halftime. Lomega led 49-35 after three and completed the rout in the final quarter, outscoring the Lady Elks 25-10.

“We do not like to lose,” LeGasse said. “We were coming back with a vengeance. We wanted to win.”

Sarah Garvie led Burlington (19-3, No. 6 in Class B) with 17 points, and Tiffany Rieger, who exploded for 57 points in the Lady Elks’ Nov. 16 triple-overtime win against Lomega, was limited to 13 on Friday.

Sophomore Hailey Duffy scored 21 and Taylor Mandell added 16 for Lomega (19-4, No. 2 in Class B), which will play Deer Creek-Lamont at 6 p.m. for its third consecutive Cherokee Strip title.

“It’s a good matchup, I think,” Lewallen said. “Both teams like to run up and down, and I think it’ll be a good game.”

Burlington plays Timberlake at 3:20 p.m. for third place. Cherokee and Medford reached the boys finals. Cherokee beat Lomega 54-27, while Medford upset Burlington 39-32.

MEDFORD 39,

 BURLINGTON 32 (B)

The Cardinals pulled the upset in the boys semifinals, defeating Burlington 39-32, avenging a 41-40 loss to the Elks on Jan. 18. The game was a close affair through three quarters, with Medford holding a 26-25 lead before Medford secured the win by outscoring Burlington 13-7 in the final stanza. Medford (7-11) was led in scoring by Tanner Misak, who had a game-high 14 points and was the only Cardinal in double figures. Brandon Gosselin had 11 points for the 10th-ranked Elks, who fell to 17-5 with the loss.

DCLA 51, TIMBERLAKE 45 (G)

The Lady Eagles earned a spot in the finals with a hard-fought 51-45 victory over Timberlake. Timberlake led by two at halftime but DCLA carried a one-point lead at 35-34 into the fourth quarter and put the game away down the stretch. DCLA was led in scoring by Jessica Blanton with 12 points.

Timberlake was led in scoring by Kylee Servin with 12 points.

CHEROKEE 54, LOMEGA 27 (B)

Top-seeded Cherokee outscored Lomega in all four quarters, slowly pulling away to earn a Cherokee Strip championship berth, 54-27.

Grant DeWitt finished with a game-high 17 to lead three Chiefs in double-figure scoring.

MEDFORD 55,

RINGWOOD 26 (G)

The Lady Cardinals had three players in double figures — Trista Cripe (13), Krislyn Arthurs (12) and Abby Osborn (10) — to beat Ringwood for the second time. The Lady Cardinals used an 18-6 second-quarter run to put the game away. Baleigh Folger led Ringwood with seven points.

RINGWOOD 63, T-LAKE 39 (B)

The Red Devils led by 20 points at halftime and never looked back, coasting to a 63-39 win over Timberlake and into today’s consolation championshp game against DCLA. Four Red Devils scored in double figures, led by Moses Barcenas with a game-high 15 points.

CHEROKEE 44,

KREMLIN-HILLSDALE 33 (G)

Ashlee Wright had 15 points, while Katie Schanbacher and Jessica Unruh had 10 points apiece in leading a balanced Cherokee attack in defeating Kremlin-Hillsdale 44-33. Katie Davis had 15 points for Kremlin-Hillsdale.

DCLA 31,

KREMLIN-HILLSDALE 24 (B)

In a low-scoring affair, DCLA nipped Kremlin-Hillsdale 31-24. Christian Looper and Lawson Thompson had eight points for DCLA, while Hayden Bonine had seven for Kremlin-Hillsdale.
