Jets romp past Hesston, 93-72

Moving out to a 22-point, 50-28 halftime lead, the Northern Oklahoma College Enid Jets (3-0) handily defeated Hesston (Kan.) 93-72 Tuesday night at the Mabee Center.

Freshman Kyndall Dudley paced the Jets with 13 points, while sophomore Xavier McClish added 12 points and freshman Trey Cohee dropped in 11 points.

“We got out in transition quite a bit in the first half,” Jets assistant coach Ryan Mahoney said. “We got out and made the shots and did real well in transition.

“We kept good pressure on them with a press that took them out of the flow and messed up their first-half.”

Mahoney said the Jets went back to a man-to-man defense in the second-half which kept Hesston in-check the rest of the way.

“We tried to get everybody a lot of minutes,” Mahoney said. “Everybody did well and they all contributed in one way or the other.

“Overall, it was a real good team effort.”

Mahoney said the young players are adapting to the speed of the college game.

“The team chemistry is really good,” he said. “To be so young, we are executing very well. We ran four or five sets tonight and did a good job. This will be a big bonus for us later in the season.

“Our defensive pressure and principles are better. We have some room to improve on rebounding, but we are crashing the boards. We are playing the middle by committee right now. We are trying to play to the strengths of the guys we put in there.

“We just want to play 40 minutes of complete basketball,” Mahoney said. “We’ll get there.”

The Jets will host Oklahoma Baptist JV on Thursday and will battle Cowley Community College at home Nov. 16.
