EHS QB race still up for grabs

With one week to go before Enid High School’s season opener against Sand Springs, head coach Tommy Parker must still choose a starting quarterback.

The situation didn’t become any more clear Friday, Parker said, as the Plainsmen scrimmaged Edmond Santa Fe and Jenks.

The starting quarterback for the season opener Sept. 4 will either be Tanner Miller or Alex Patterson, both juniors.

“They continued their battle a little bit,” Parker said. “They both did some good things and they both did some things that need some work.”

Besides ironing out the starting quarterback position, Parker said the team needs to work on eliminating mistakes, clarifying offensive and defensive responsibilities and work out some “kinks” in the defense.

“(Tonight) we had some bright spots and we had some not so bright spots,” Parker said.

Waukomis head coach Mike Felder said he liked what he saw Friday night from his defense but the offense needs some work after watching them play against Medford and Copan.

“We didn’t throw the ball very well,” Felder said. “We were hoping to throw the ball better than we did.”

Felder said the team needs to work on recognizing different stances and blitzes.

Canton coach Robby Davis said he was impressed with his team’s offensive play against Seiling and Shattuck, especially that of the passing game.

“Our quarterback, Colby Haigler, threw the ball very well tonight,” he said.
