Rested Enid teams open weekend against Lawton

ENID, Okla. — Following an unexpected 10-day break between games thanks to Tuesday’s senior night home games being canceled due to inclement weather, the Plainsmen and Pacers finally will be back on the court tonight when they visit Lawton for a girls-boys doubleheader starting at 6:30 p.m. Both teams also visit Lawton Eisenhower on Saturday, before ending the regular season Monday at El Reno

The No.7 Pacers (16-3) are coming off of a 54-41 win Feb. 5 at home against Guthrie, with senior Courtney Chelf leading the way with a season-high 28 points. The victory was the Pacers’ third straight, and their seventh win in the last eight games.

The Pacers will be looking to complete a season sweep over the Lawton schools. Enid defeated Eisenhower 32-31 on Dec. 14 and romped past Lawton 51-32 on Dec. 15. Both games were played at the Mabee Center.

Tonight’s Pacers’ opponent, Lawton (3-16), is on an eight-game losing streak, with its most recent loss a 49-41 setback against Lawton Eisenhower. The Lady Wolverines have not won a game since defeating Noble 66-35 on Jan. 12.

Lawton Eisenhower (13-6), Enid’s opponent Saturday, is ranked 17th in Class 6A, but have lost four of their last five games, snapping a four-game losing skid with its win over Lawton.

The Pacers will wrap up the regular season Monday at El Reno. Enid defeated El Reno 50-45 at the Mabee Center in the season-opener for both teams. The Lady Indians (6-13) are on a four-game losing streak entering their game tonight at Piedmont.

The Pacers open regional play Feb. 22 against No. 20 Mustang (9-12) at Tulsa Washington.

Meanwhile, the Plainsmen (7-12) are coming off of a 55-44 loss at home to Guthrie Feb. 5 that snapped a season-best three-game winning streak. Aaron Austin led the Plainsmen in scoring with nine points.

The Plainsmen will be looking to avenge early-season losses to Lawton and Lawton Eisenhower tonight and Saturday.

The Plainsmen fell 66-58 to Lawton at home on Dec. 15. The Wolverines (10-11) have struggled for most of the season, but are playing some of their better basketball as of late, having won three of their last four games, including a 60-55 win over No. 8 Lawton Eisenhower, Enid’s Saturday opponent.

Eisenhower defeated the Plainsmen 71-66 back on Dec. 14 at the Mabee Center and have won two of their last three games.

The Plainsmen finish the regular season Monday at El Reno (11-8), which defeated Enid 56-49 in the season-opener.

The Plainsmen open regional play Feb. 23 at Bartlesville against Broken Arrow (15-4), which currently is ranked sixth in Class 6A.

Jackson signs with Mid-America Christian
Jemarcus Jackson signed a letter of intent to play basketball on a scholarship at NAIA Division I Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma City on Monday, ending a long wait for the Enid High senior, and a longer one for his nerves.
Jackson already was sweating thanks to a weighty training session just before his signing ceremony at the Enid High School food court, but that wasn’t the only reason he was “sweating like a dog” as he filled out the paperwork.
