ENID, Okla. — The final team scores (Enid girls 506-193 and Enid boys 400-236) in Enid’s swim dual with Piedmont were pretty irrelevant Friday at the Denny Price Family YMCA swim complex.

What was relevant was honoring seniors Whitney Livesay, Ashley Valdez, Jeremy Crise and Alyssa Shearer, who were swimming at home for the last time for the Pacers and the Plainsmen. All four will conclude their careers at next week’s state meet.

“They are all great kids and great athletes,’’ said Enid coach Ginny Shipley. “I appreciate the contributions they made to the program.’’

The quartet was recognized following the boys 50-yard freestyle. Each swimmer was introduced with their parents.

“It was pretty emotional,” Crise said. “The parents were crying like they were babies. It was pretty exciting, this being the last home meet.’’

Crise won his last event, the 100-yard breaststroke, in 1:18.12, and teamed with Gabe Sanchez, Charles Laws and Michael Johnson to win both the 200-yard medley (1:56.46) and 200-yard freestyle relays (1:42.40). He was second in the 100 free (55.89).

“I hope we can keep cutting our times,’’ Crise said. “We’re getting a better seed every time we go out. It feels pretty good.’’

Livesay and Valdez teamed with Christy McMeans and Hunter McEachern to win Livesay’s final event, the 200 free relay in 1:51.41. Livesay won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:26.47 and was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:07.55.

“I felt I did well today,’’ Livesay said. “I was pretty proud of my times. It was sad, but I was kind of happy ... there were no tears. I loved the senior ceremony. It was a good day.’’

Valdez, wearing her “victory swimsuit” the EHS swimmers will wear at state, concluded her home career by winning the 100 breast in 1:19.29. She was second in the 50 free in 28.01.

“It was the first time I’ve worn it, so it was pretty exciting,’’ Valdez said. “My times went down, so that was good.

“It was a little emotional and sad when we did the parent walk, but I decided to get it together and try my best. It was a really good last meet.’’

Shearer teamed with Christie McMeans, Destiny Turner and Hannah Esquibel to win her last race — the 400-yard free relay in 4:53.50. She won the 100 back in 1:18.11 and was second in the 200 free in 2:45.99. She teamed with Erin Felber, Destiny Turner and Hannah Esquibel to finish third in the 200 free relay in 2:13.90.

“It felt good,’’ Shearer said. “I was happy with all of my times, but it was sad knowing it was the last (home) meet.’’

Shearer said the events were emotional for her.

“It really hasn’t sunk in yet,’’ she said. “I think it will set in more after state. I’m friends with a lot of the girls and guys on the team and it’s going to be sad knowing I won’t be seeing them every day once I go to college.’’

She will be swimming the 400 relay at state.

“It’s been a lot of fun the last two years,’’ Shearer said. “I’m glad I started to swim.’’

Shearer will attend Oklahoma State University next fall where she will major in pre-med.

Sanchez (100 free, 52.0 and 100 back, 1:05.16) and McEachern (50 free, 25.77 and 100 free, 57.25) were double individual winners for EHS.

“I was pleased I bettered my time in the 100 free,’’ said Sanchez, who will swim the 100 free and 100 back at state as well as the 200 medley and free relays. “I hope we can get some great times at state.’’

Other EHS winners were Johnson, 200 free, 2:10.20 and Laws, 100 butterfly, 1:07.52 and the boys 400 free relay of Jeremy Swan, Gerren Harding, Tanner Owings and Garrett Wallace, 4:45.41.

The state meet is next Friday and Saturday at Jenks.
