NORMAN, Okla. —
Steven Pledger scored a game-high 17 points and Amath M’Baye had 14 points and six rebounds to lead Oklahoma past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 72-42 on Monday.
Pledger entered the contest shooting only 36 percent on 3-point attempts, but connected on 5 of 10 shots from beyond the arc to give the Sooners (9-3) an offensive spark in the first regular-season game played at OU’s McCasland Field House in 38 years.
OU jumped out to an early 18-6 lead and never looked back en route to handing the Islanders their 10th-straight loss, dating back to a season-opening win over Texas Lutheran on Nov. 11. Joy Williamson led Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with 14 points and five rebounds.
Less than 48 hours after turning in a 16-point, six-rebound effort in a win over Ohio, M’Baye helped the Sooners roll out to a 40-21 halftime advantage. He led OU with eight first-half points.
M’Baye, the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week, was 7 for 11 from the field and had six rebounds to share the team lead with Romero Osby, who scored six of his eight points at the free-throw line.
OU outrebounded the Islanders 44-32 and shot 41 percent from the field, compared to only 29 percent for the visitors. The Sooners will open Big 12 Conference play at West Virginia Saturday.
