ENID — Ex-Lady Jet Anderson

headed for Olympics



Northern Oklahoma College Enid will be represented at the upcoming 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Rose Anderson, who played for the Lady Jets in the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons, will be playing for Great Britain’s women’s basketball team.

It’s the first time the Brits have made the Olympic women’s field. They have wins over South Korea, Argentina and Canada in recent international competition.

Anderson helped leAd the Edinburgh Kool Cats to a Scottish League and Cup title as a senior in 2006. From there she played at NOC Enid and the University of Central Oklahoma. She also rowed for UCO.

After UCO, she joined the UWIC Archers in Cardiff, helping them to the league title and the finals of the EBL National Cup.

She was on the Great Britain Futures team at the University World Games in 2009 and 2011.



Meadowlake course

to close at 5 p.m. today



Due to Independence Day festivities at Mea-dowlake Park, Mea-dowlake Golf Course will close at 5 p.m. today.

The city’s annual fireworks show will be at the park at dusk.



Team selling fireworks

to raise funds for rings



The Enid Enforcers semi-pro football team is raising funds to cover the cost of championship rings for the team with proceeds of sales from its fireworks stand today and Thursday.

The Enforcers claimed the Central Football League championship with a 28-21 victory over Joplin, Mo., on June 2.

 It was the team’s first CFL championship.

The Enforcers’ fireworks stand is located on U.S. 81, four miles south of Enid (just north of Waukomis) and is open from 10 a.m. to midnight today and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
