Bowman sparks Chiefs over Balko

CHEROKEE, Okla. — Tanner Bowman scored three touchdowns on long runs to lead Cherokee to a 30-0 win over Balko in the Class C playoffs.

Bowman’s scoring runs covered 41, 60 and 71 yards. Josh Argraves added a 22-yard touchdown run for the Chiefs, ranked No. 2 in Class C.

It was the second straight playoff shutout for Cherokee, which forced five turnovers.

The Chiefs improve to 12-0 win the win and will face 11-0 Forgan next week in the semifinals. Forgan beat Deer Creek-Lamont 48-6.

POND CREEK-HUNTER 41, WETUMKA 40

WETUMKA — Kicker Hannes Staat’s extra point provided the difference as Pond Creek-Hunter beat undefeated Wetumka 41-40 in overtime in the second round of the Class B playoffs.

Zach Raynor caught a 10-yard pass from Josh Irvin on fourth down in overtime to tie the score, one play after he dropped a pass. That set up Stotts for the PAT and the win.

Brady Krittenbrink scored four touchdowns for the Panthers, on runs of 1 and 5 yards and passes of 28 and 29 yards from Irvin.

Trent Grimes also scored on a 2-yard run for the Panthers.

The win sends Pond Creek-Hunter, 11-1, into the Class B semifinals against Fox, which beat Keota 52-32.

KINGFISHER 35, TUTTLE 14

KINGFISHER — Landon Nault scored three touchdowns as top-ranked Kingfisher beat old rival Tuttle 35-14 in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs.

Nault scored on a 10-yard run and a pair of 1-yard runs. He also threw a 39-yard touchdown pass to Keaton Ely. Grant Newton scored Kingfisher’s other touchdown on a 61-yard run.

Nault and Newton provided the bulk of Kingfisher’s offense, combining for 40 carries and 267 yards rushing.

Kingfisher, 12-0, will face Stigler next week. Stigler beat Berryhill 42-21.

SHARON-MUTUAL 48, THACKERVILLE 0

THACKERVILLE — Sharon-Mutual made sure its long trip to Thackerville was not in vain, beating the Wildcats 48-0 in the second round of the Class C playoffs.

The Trojans, who have won 10 straight games, blew the game open with a 40-point second period and ended the game at the half on the 45-point mercy rule.

Cooper Free scored three touchdowns on runs of 7, 22 and 18 yards and threw for another to lead Sharon-Mutual. His touchdown pass covered 38 yards to Cody Campbell.

Connor Harris scored the other touchdowns for the Trojans on runs of 22 and 12 yards. The Trojans, 11-1, will face Tipton next week. Tipton beat Bartlesville Wesleyan 46-0.

LAVERNE 48, DAVENPORT 0

DAVENPORT — Top-ranked Laverne continued to roll, beating Davenport 48-0 in the second round of the Class B playoffs.

Trevor Harris scored four touchdowns as the Tigers ended the game in the third quarter on the 45-point mercy rule. His touchdowns came on runs of 42, 24, 2 and 25 yards.

Tucker Rolf also scored on an 8-yard run and threw a 16-yard scoring touchdown pass to Seth Overstreet.

Laverne, 12-0, will face Rejoice Christian next week. Rejoice Christian beat Garber 44-22.

FORGAN 48, DCLA 6

FORGAN — Forgan jumped out to an early lead and ended Deer Creek-Lamont’s season with a 48-6 win in the Class C playoffs.

The Bulldogs, ranked No. 3, led 16-0 after one period and had a 34-6 halftime lead over the Eagles.

Lawson Thompson scored DCLA’s only points on a 10-yard run in the second period.

Dalton Lemieux scored three touchdowns on runs of 1, 17 and 80 yards and threw scoring passes of 71 yards to Trevin Lopez and 1 yard to Chandler Bryer. Bryer also scored on runs of 3 and 2 yards.

Forgan, 11-0, will face Cherokee next week.

DCLA ends the season 8-4.



CASHION 28, FAIRVIEW 21

CASHION — Cashion ended Fairview’s season with a 28-21 win in the Class A playoffs.

The Wildcats, 12-0, will play Talihina next week. Talihina beat Warner 29-8. Fairview ends the season 10-2.



REJOICE CHRISTIAN 44, GARBER 22

OWASSO — Rejoice Christian defeated Garber 44-22, ending the Wolverines’ run in the Class B playoffs.

The loss ends Garber's season at 9-3. Rejoice Christian, 11-1, has won 11 in a row and will play Laverne next week.



FREDERICK 49, ALVA 13

FREDERICK — Undefeated Frederick defeated Alva 49-13 in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs.

The loss ends Alva’s season at 8-4. Ty Hooper threw two touchdown passes to Riley Hess for the Goldugs in a losing effort.

    The last time Nate Melton and Claytin Beaver played together, they left the field losers of a season-ending 12-5 Class A state quarterfinal.
    On Friday, each of them in Enid Majors blue instead of Glencoe red, and things went closer to plan.
    Melton was the Majors’ opening-day starter, introducing himself to Enid with six strikeouts in three innings, topping 90 mph with a fastball that rarely ended anywhere but Beaver’s mitt in a 7-1 Majors win.
