Sooner Report: It's a rare year for OU football

NORMAN, Okla. — All the All-American teams have been named, and it’s proven to be a rare year for Oklahoma.

Not only did it not have a first-team All-American this season; it breaks a six-year streak of having a consensus All-American.

The run started back in 2007 when linebacker Curtis Lofton and offensive lineman Duke Robinson both were named to the majority of the All-American  teams released by The Associated Press, American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News, and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Quarterback Sam Bradford and Robinson continued the streak in 2008. Offensive tackle Trent Williams and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy ran it three straight years in 2009. Wide receiver Ryan Broyles and safety Quinton Carter were consensus All-Americans in 2010. Broyles was a repeat selection in 2011.

Since Bob Stoops became head coach in 1999, the longest the Sooners have gone without a consensus All-American is two seasons — 2005 and 2006. They’ve had two or more consensus All-Americans in nine of those years.
