Kingfisher reaches Class 3A semifinals

KINGFISHER — Kingfisher blew out Stigler in the second half and cruised to a 41-12 win in the Class 3A quarterfinals.

The Yellowjackets led 13-12 at the half, but outscored the Panthers 28-0 in the second half.

Grant Newton and Nick Smith each scored three touchdowns for Kingfisher. Smith scored on runs of 14, 13 and 10 yards, while Newton scored on runs of 1, 3 and 3 yards.

Newton, Smith and Landon Nault combined for 371 of Kingfisher’s 452 total yards.

The Yellowjackets, 13-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, will face Seminole in the semifinals next week. Seminole, 12-0, beat Metro Christian 34-28.

POND CREEK-HUNTER 52, FOX 0

DEC CITY — Pond Creek-Hunter earned a spot in the Class B state championship game Friday with a 52-0 drubbing of Fox.

The win sets the Panthers up for the fight for the gold ball against District B-1 rival Laverne, which handed the Panthers their only loss, 36-18 in the last week of the regular season. The Tigers beat Rejoice Christian 48-8.

The site for the championship game will be determined by the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association.

The Panthers, 11-1, jumped on previously undefeated Fox 33-0 in the first quarter and ended the game at the half on the 45-point mercy rule.

Trenton Grimes and Brady Krittenbrink each scored three touchdowns for Pond Creek-Hunter. Grimes’ scores came on runs of 51, 25 and 5 yards. Krittenbrink’s came on runs of 7 and 6 yards and a 22-yard pass from Josh Irvin.

Krittenbrink ran for 58 yards, pushing him over the 2,000-yard mark for the season. He has scored 37 touchdowns.

Grimes rushed for 151 yards on just eight carries.

The Panthers stuffed Fox’ offense, holding the Foxes to just 17 yard total offense on 27 plays. Fox had minus-36 yards rushing.

 FORGAN 24, CHEROKEE 20

WOODWARD — Forgan scored with 30 seconds left to beat Cherokee 24-20 in the Class C semifinals.

Kameron Hall scored on a 3-yard pass from Dalton Lemiux for Forgan, which will play Tipton for the championship next week. Tipton beat Sharon-Mutual 28-20.

Tanner Bowman had put the Chiefs up in the back-and-forth game, scoring on a 58-yard run in the fourth quarter. Bowman had a hand in all of Cherokee’s touchdowns, also scoring on a 60-yard run and throwing a 20-yard scoring pass to Josh Argraves.

Bowman ended up with 184 yards rushing on 27 carries.

Cherokee led 8-6 after one quarter, while the Bulldogs led 12-8 at the half. The Chiefs retook the lead 14-12 after three periods.

Lemieux also scored on a 10-yard run for Forgan, 12-0. Hall also threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Jake Regier for Forgan.

Cherokee ends the season at 12-1.

TIPTON 28,

SHARON-MUTUAL 20

WEATHERFORD — Undefeated Tipton ended Sharon-Mutual’s season, 28-20 in the Class C semifinals.

John Custar had 14 tackles, two quarterback sacks, one fumble recovery and caught one pass for 9 yards in a losing effort for Sharon-Mutual, 11-2.

Tipton will take a 12-0 record against Forgan in next week’s Class C state championship game.

    A tip of the hat to Murray State College for winning the Plains District tournament this weekend to assure there will be an Oklahoma team in the upcoming NJCAA Division II World Series at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.
    The Aggies, who were 5-0 against Northern Oklahoma College Enid this season, beat MCC-Longview 14-7 in the district championship game to take a 41-21 record into the tournament.
    They are a team that should be easy for Enid fans to adopt as their own.
