Miguel Bretado threw three scoreless innings to get Enid’s first save of the season as the Plainsmen beat Woodward 8-3 in high school baseball action Thursday night.
Bretado came in relief of winning pitcher Lawson King after King allowed a three-run homer by Grady Todd to cut Enid’s lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth.
Bretado retired three straight batters to get out of the inning. He allowed three hits the rest of the way as Enid raised its record to 10-8 overall. Woodward dropped to 8-7.
“He came in and trhew strikes,’’ said EHS coach James Peoples of Bretado. “His changeup was working well.
Dillon Walker continued to carry a hot bat for the Plainsmen. He drove in three runs with a two-RBI single in the first and sacrifice fly in the seventh to score Erick Ramirez, who had doubled and went to third on a sacrifice by Colter LeGrant.
Walker’s two-RBI single was the big blow in a four-run first inning.
Brady Baugh led off with a single, stole second and went to third on a throwing error on the play. He scored on a triple by Joe Black. Seth Floyd’s sacrifice fly scoerd Black.
Walker, a few batters later, came up with a single to score Ramirez and Bretado, who had singled. Bretado stole second.
The Plainsmen scored three runs in the sixth to get some breathing room. Blake Enmeier had a pinch-hit single for an RBI while Baugh drove in two more with a single.
“I was hoping we could put them away after we got up early,’’ Peoples said, “but Woodward stayed hooked up. I’ll take an 8-3 win.
EHS will travel to the home school Oklahoma City Broncos Monday.
