Black returns home as Jets host Rose State for 2

ENID, Okla. — Enid’s Joe Black will be returning home today when he and his Rose State College teammates face NOC Enid in a 1 p.m. doubleheader at David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

Black was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored in the Raiders’ 10-7 loss to the Jets in the first game of a doubleheader at Midwest City Thursday.

Black was 1-for-4 with an RBI when the Raiders won the second game, 7-2.

Midwest City native Korbin Polston was 4-for-7 for the Jets with four RBI, a double and a home run.

Polston leads the Jets offensive attack with an .415 batting average with six doubles, two triples, three home runs and 18 RBI. He has a slugging percentage of .774 and an on-base average of .484.

He is followed by Sammy Terry (.333, 13 RBI, seven doubles), Chase Knott (.340, four doubles, 12 RBI) and Aaron McCandless (.322, three doubles and 10 RBI).

The Jets are hitting .252 as a team.

The Jets  take a 4-14 record into the doubleheader, but assistant coach Scott Mansfield was encouraged after Thursday’s games.

He said the Jets were the most focused they have been at the plate this year.

“We’re staying positive,’’ he said. “We’re keeping focus on trying to get better and they are buying into that.’’

The Jets are scheduled to start Austin Hannum (0-0, 8.00 ERA, nine strikeouts in nine innings) and Austin Hilton (0-0, eight strikeouts in eight innings) against the Raiders.

The Jets have a team ERA of 8.06. They have 115 strikeouts and 101 walks in 1271⁄3 innings.
