MIDWEST CITY, Okla. —
Hunter McEachern picked up a new state qualifying time in winning the girls’ 100-meter butterfly (1:13.97) at a meet at Rose State College Friday.
McEachern also won the 100 breast in 1:26 as EHS swam at a metric pool for the first time this season. She teamed with Sara Nazari, Ashley Valdez and Whitney Livesay to take both the 200 free (2:05.41) and 400 free (4:40.47) relays.
Nazari won the 100 back in 1:14.31 while Valdez took the 200 IM in 3:03.32.
The Pacers were second in the team competition with 434 points. Mustang was first with 484 points.
The Plainsmen, with only six swimmers, finished third with 228 points. Carl Albert was first with 426 points. Mustang was second with 259. Charles Laws won both the 200 IM (2:57.31) and the 100 butterfly (1:24.53) and teamed with Michael John-son, Gabe Sanchez and Jeremy Crise to finish second in both the 200 free (1:58.19) and 400 free (4:36.70) relays.
Sanchez was the other EHS winner, taking the 100 back in 1:10.56.
“It was a hard adjustment for them to go to a meter pool because you have to swim a little longer,’’ said EHS assistant coach Cindy Moore. “I thought we did a good job. I was real proud of the boys to get as many points as they did with only six swimmers.’’
The swimmers will go to a meet at Jenks next weekend.
“I’m looking forward to the few kids that are on the edge to get their state cuts there,’’ Moore said.

Glencoe duo makes strong introduction
The last time Nate Melton and Claytin Beaver played together, they left the field losers of a season-ending 12-5 Class A state quarterfinal.
On Friday, each of them in Enid Majors blue instead of Glencoe red, and things went closer to plan.
Melton was the Majors’ opening-day starter, introducing himself to Enid with six strikeouts in three innings, topping 90 mph with a fastball that rarely ended anywhere but Beaver’s mitt in a 7-1 Majors win. - More Sports Headlines
