Drummond, Pioneer test win streaks tonight

Well ... weather permitting

ENID — Pioneer and Drummond’s boys are hoping a predicted snowstorm doesn’t hit northwest Oklahoma.

The Mustangs and Bulldogs are both riding winning streak going into tonight’s prep basketball action.

Pioneer (16-4) is scheduled to take a five-game winning streak at Frontier (10-10) at 8 tonight. The girls tip off at 6:30 p.m.

The Mustangs had their highest scoring night of the season in a 83-39 rout of Morrison Friday. Brett McNaughton (17) and Claye Hammock (14) had their high games of the season. Frontier is ranked No. 13 in Class B.

Pioneer’s girls (11-9) have won four of their last five games. Frontier, coached by Ames native Clay Stephens, is 13-8 and is ranked No. 5 in Class B.

Drummond’s boys (10-12) will be riding a four-game winning streak when they host Waukomis in their regular season finale.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 58-45 win over Pond Creek-Hunter. Zach Steicher scored a season-high 27 points.

Waukomis (7-15) has lost seven straight, including a 32-26 decision to the Bulldogs at the recent Skeltur Conference Tournament. Cole Harber and Dustin Parks have three straight games in double figures.

Waukomis’ girls (11-11) have lost six of their last seven games, but beat Drummond 58-27 at the Skeltur Tournament behind 13 points from Haylie Simunek.

Drummond (6-17) had a three-game winning streak broken by Pond Creek-Hunter, 51-33 Friday.

In other county action tonight (girls records listed first):

Cimarron (9-12, 2-18),  at Waynoka (7-12 , 10-9) Cimarron’s girls ended a five-game losing streak Friday by beating Kremlin-Hillsdale 55-29 behind a season-high 15 points by Hannah Brien. Waynoka’s Danielle Litzenberger has scored 47 points in her last two games.

Cimarron’s boys had their highest scoring output of the season in a 65-58 upset of Kremlin-Hillsdale Friday which broke a 15-game losing streak. Cody Roggow (21) and Brian Root (20) combined for 41 points. Waynoka has won six straight games. Roper Cunningham is averaging 24 points over his last six games.

Aline-Cleo (3-18, 8-13) at Kremlin-Hillsdale (3-16, 13-7)

Aline-Cleo is trying to break a 10-game losing streak. Kristina Schmidt had 15 points in a 63-35 loss to Timberlake Friday. The Lady Broncs try to break a 10-game losing streak.Shannen Davis leads the attack with a 19.1 average.

Aline-Cleo’s boys are coming off a 39-38 upset of Timberlake. LaTelle Graves is averaging 20.9 points over his last seven games. The Broncs try to rebound from Friday’s 65-58 loss to Cimarron Friday. Kremlin-Hillsdale did have four players in double figures — Mitchell Foote (15), Ricky Streck (14), Jake Streck (12) and Austin Fox (12).
