ENID — Kiandre Glasgow was a major surprise for Enid at the Oklahoma Track Coaches Association Indoor Championships Friday at Chisholm Trail Expo Center.
Glasgow, whose only practice came in pre-meet warmups, was second in the boys Class 5A-6A long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 11⁄2 inches.
“That would have been a good jump outdoors,’’ said Enid coach Joe Miranov. “It’s a great jump at this time of year.’’
Whitney Warfield and Katelyn Belisle highlighted the day for the Pacers.
Warfield was second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:34.34 and fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.10.
Belisle was second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 12:05.94.
Warfield and Belisle teamed with Cara Merz and Elena Camacho to finish third in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 10:52.58.
“Our two thoroughbreds came through like I thought they would,’’ said Miranov.
Warfield might have finished higher in the 400 meters had she been able to compete in a faster heat, Miranov said. Meet officials added a heat to get Warfield in the race.
“I’m awfully proud of these kids,’’ Miranov said. “It’s been really hard on the kids to prepare because we haven’t had a chance to work on any speed endurance. We did real well for the conditions we have had the last two weeks.’’
Because the EHS track has been covered by snow and ice, the Pacers and Plainsmen were forced to practice on the third floor of the high school.
“Once we get some more practices under our belts, we will be a much stronger team,’’ Miranov said.
The Pacers and Plainsmen will be back in action next Friday at the Trojan Indoor Games at the coliseum.
The smaller classes (A-4A) will compete today at the coliseum.
