ENID —
It will be a wild night tonight as Checkered Flag Productions converges on the Garfield County Fairgrounds with the Enid Red Neck Nationals. Big block engines will shake Enid Speedway in a special show starring monster trucks, mud drag racing, hot rod truck/tractor pulls and dirt track car races.
Gates open at 6 p.m. and the first green flag will wave at 7:30 p.m. Discount advance tickets are on sale at the Sonic Drive Ins on Willow and South Van Buren
Track promoter Ed Beckley said he wanted to show his gratitude with the reception he has gotten from local fans and racers with the huge motorsports extravaganza.
“We love yah Enid and Northern Oklahoma,” Beckley said. “What a wild and crazy night it is going to be. See Barbarian, Razn Kane and War Eagle in an all-out Monster Truck Compet-ition. First, we shall see who can tear their tailgates off and stand them on their tails in the wheelie contest! Next, we will see who can spin the best doughnut and turn it into a cyclone. Then it is time to see them crush come cars, vans, or whatever we can find.”
For the first time ever in Oklahoma, side-by-side mud racers in all types of specially manufactured race trucks will compete in drag racing two at a time.
Dragster style with huge tires and super light chassis powered by mountain motors of more than 500 cubic inches, these drivers will wheelie from the starting line and spray mud behind them as they launch off the line and dig for traction while going as fast as 70-80 miles per hour in 200 feet.
Hot Rod Dragster Tractors will hook to a 50,000-pound weight transfer machine and turn all the horsepower loose. These hot rods are powered by Ford, Chevy and Dodge big block motors running on methanol.
Local drivers can enter their diesel street trucks in a special truck pull. Beckley said he wants to invite drivers to rev up their pick-up and hook it to the sled to see just how much power your truck has.
Interested drivers can phone (620) 225-3277 for more information.
Sign ups begin at the pit gate at 4 p.m. For a $25 pit pass, the driver can demonstrate the power of their truck and show off their driving talent.
The dirt track car races will feature some of the wildest action ever as local and area hot shoes compete in circle track races.
These cars can reach speeds in excess of 90 mph. Promoters promise plenty of bumping, fender rubbing, spinning, crashing and using each other for traction as they battle for the win.
Classes of competition include the bombers, sport mods, factory stocks and pure stocks.
