ENID, Okla. —
Enid’s cross country teams will have final warmups for next week’s regionals at a “non-conference’’ conference meet at Stillwater today.
Enid, Stillwater and Ponca City were members of the Centennial Conference which folded a few years ago. The meet serves as their “conference’’ meet, EHS coach Joe Miranov said. Teams are not limited on how many runners they can enter.
“This is the last chance for the kids to make varsity for regionals,’’ Miranov said. “It’s a fast course and we should have a lot of fun with it.’’
Enid’s Abby Resendiz and Holly Stuart should contend with Ponca City’s Sierra Gray and Stillwater’s Chablee Sanders for top girls individual honors. Gray was 14th and Sanders 57th at the recent OSU Jamboree.
Tyler Berge, Andi Pierce and Savannah D’Auteuil should give EHS enough depth for the Pacers to win the team title, Miranov said. Arely Ramirez, Rachel Pyper, Lindsey Goldstorm and Autumn D’Auteuil are battling for the final two varsity girls spots.
The Plainsmen lineup is pretty well set, Miranov said.
Miranov was especially pleased with times at last week’s pre-state meet at Edmond Santa Fe where two runners — Dalton Birchfield (18:41.76) and Nate House (18:53.98) —were under 19 minutes for the first time this season. Three others — Garrett Wallace (19:31.53), Jake Taylor (19:11.56) and Hunter Childs (19:54.21) — were under 20 minutes.
