YUKON — — The Gibson family continues to be bad news for the Enid baseball team.
A year ago, Ryan Gibson shut down the Plainsmen in a 4-1 victory.
Gibson’s younger brother, Kyle, was even more effective in shutting out the Plainsmen, 4-0 Saturday in handing Enid (2-1) its first loss of the season.
Gibson allowed only a fourth-inning single by Erick Ramirez. He struck out nine, walked one and hit two batters as the No. 13-ranked Millers raised their record to 5-0.
“That guy was pretty good on the mound,’’ said Enid head coach James Peoples. “He had everything working for him. He was getting ahead with his fastball. He had a good changeup and his curve kept us off balance the whole game. We helped him some by swinging at some pitches out of the strike zone.’’
Losing pitcher Mike Phillips allowed seven hits while walking two and striking out three.
“Mike pitched well enough to win,’’ People said. “We just didn’t have enough offense.’’
Tyler Hill had an RBI triple and a home run for the Millers. His triple drove in Hunter Bohannon, who led off the second with a walk.
His solo homer in the fourth concluded the scoring.
“Both of those hits were wind blown,’’ Peoples said. “On a normal day, I think the right fielder would have caught both balls, but you have to give him a lot of credit for going with the pitch.
Yukon scored twice in the third on the strength of three singles and a sacrifice fly by Cisco Factor.
The Plainsmen committed only one error on the day.
Enid, after the game, was headed to Alabama for the Alabama-Oklahoma Challenge, beginning Monday. The Plainsmen will face Childersburg, Ala., at 1 p.m. in the first game.
KCRC Radio (1390 AM) will air all the Enid games in the tournament.
