Chisholm Middle School scholars collect contest awards

A group of Chisholm Middle School students are celebrating numerous victories in a recent state scholastic meet.

One CMS student, seventh-grader Scott Snodgrass, won the seventh-grade Tournament of Champions Top Scholar award and won first place in current events, social studies and science.

Sixteen Chisholm Middle School students qualified for the meet held at Redlands Com-munity College, El Reno.

“I’m extremely proud of their efforts all year,” said Julie Lareau, Chisholm Middle School scholastic team sponsor.

More than 110 school districts from around Oklahoma competed in the meet. Students qualified at a regional competition by placing in the top three in language arts, math, social studies, science, humanities and current events.

Students competed for top scholar awards by placing in four or more subjects.

Tyler Zander won second in current events.

Lareau said students spend a lot of time outside of class studying for the scholastic contests. She said the students involved in the scholastic meets also are involved in athletics and band and are all-around students.

Lareau said the contest was extremely competitive because the 110 Oklahoma school districts sent their very best students in the competitive categories.

Nearly all the Chisholm students placed in the top 10 in their categories.

CMS Scholastic Team member Caleb Lareau also competed in a recent math competition. Many of the state’s top math students competed in Oklahoma City at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathemathics. Ladreau, an eighth-grader, won first in Division III.
