4 EHS students selected for honor choir
Four Enid High School students recently were selected for the 2005 Western Honor Chorus after an October audition in Woodward.
Matthew Johnson, sophomore; Riscoe Burton, senior; and juniors Kelsey Stark and Emily Gober were selected for the honor choir and to perform in the concert Nov. 22 in Altus.
"That means they're the top 10 percent of singers in all the choirs in the western part of the state," said Randy Johnson, EHS choir director.
About 80 to 100 students were selected to participate in the choir.
Students learned the music already and will put it together during the concert.
Anyone wanting to schedule a choir program for their club or group meeting can call Johnson at Enid High at 234-2404 to schedule a performance.
Pioneer High School band members honored
The Pioneer High School Band was one of a handful of bands to receive three superior ratings at Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association marching contest last month. The band played and drilled to Western themes such as "Ghost Riders" and "Hang 'em High." Both the high school band and Pioneer Junior High Band received first place in their class at the Northwestern Oklahoma State University homecoming parade Oct. 15.
All-State Band auditions were Saturday for Oklahoma Secondary School Band Directors' Association and Griffin Maxwell, a Pioneer junior, was awarded first-chair euphonium in competitive auditions. Hannah Denker, also a junior, was first alternate on flute. Amy Dillon and Jennie Howell, both sophomores, made the second round and finished high in the statewide competition.
Pioneer band members will audition for regional honor groups and the annual Pleasant Vale Concert right before Thanksgiving break. The high school band also is planning a return visit to Oakwood Mall for a Christmas concert. The bands are directed by Sherri Lohmann, Dave Holland and Nalda Callicoat.
Delta Theta Chi scholarships available
Applications for three scholarships, two in the amount of $2,500 and one in the amount of $1,300 for students are being accepted by Delta Theta Chi Sorority, a national non-collegiate educational sorority.
Requirements call for a high scholastic average, evidence of financial need, currently enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited college, and an application form, with attachments as specified by the National Executive Council. These scholarships are awarded annually to students of promise and distinction.
All applications must be completed and returned by Feb. 1 in order for the winning applicants to be notified by next May. For an application, contact Elizabeth T. Smith, scholarship chairman at 233-0076, or contact a school counselor.
