Chisholm Elementary Schools officials proclaimed Make A Difference Day Saturday a huge success and are thankful to the more than 30 volunteers who completed a variety of projects.

Administrators also report parent-teacher conferences were very successful with 97 percent parent participation.

Students are skating during physical education class through Monday and parents are welcome to attend and skate with their children.

A Veterans Day program is slated 10 a.m. Nov. 11.

The November Parent Teacher Association meeting is scheduled 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at the library.

Parents are welcome to eat lunch with their child Nov. 17, the day Thanksgiving is celebrated with a turkey dinner.





Chisholm Middle School



The Chisholm Middle School Book Fair runs through Tuesday. Books sell from $1 to $25 and 50 percent of the total sale goes back to the school.

The 2005-06 yearbooks are being sold. Parents can send money to purchase the yearbook, which come out next year. Yearbooks cost $25 before Dec. 1 and $30 if purchased later. Checks should be made out to CMS.

The October Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting was held and 30 students attended to hear Joyce Markes speak. The next FCA meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Nov. 10 at the CHS gym. Jake Adams, youth minister from First Baptist Church, is the scheduled speaker.

The CMS student council travels Dec. 2-3 to the state convention in McAlester. Students will listen to a variety of motivational speakers as well as enhance their leadership skills through small groups and workshops.

NJHS eighth-graders went to Golden Oaks Assisted Living Center in October. Students worked with residents to make fall decorations for the community center. They also made reversible table placemats and sack scarecrow heads for room doors. Sponsors said the addition made a cheery atmosphere for residents and students got two hours for a community service project.

The next Parent-Teacher Organization meeting is 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Students commended in an assembly in October for their ability to exhibit the character trait of prowess were Chloe Fuksa, Tyler Carroll and Andy Nelson, eighth grade; Caleb Lareau, Kirke Suter, Meghan Cox and Jalyn Overton, seventh grade; and Janae Cole-man, Cole Jasper and Mikala Wynn, sixth grade.

Classes participated in the homecoming parade held in North Enid last month. The sixth-grade class won the middle school float competition.

The sixth-grade academic team has been winning their matches at the Y's Guys competition sponsored by Continental Resources and the YMCA. They won their first match 21-12 and the second match 21-4.

Students competed in the Chamberlain Scholastic Meet Oct. 25 in Fairview and travel to the Red Carpet Country Scholastic Meet Saturday in Kingfisher. Students compete against area schools in scholastic meets by taking objective tests in math, language arts, science, current events, social studies and humanities.

Chisholm Middle School recognized Red Ribbon Week Oct. 24-28. Elise Evans, in conjunction with the Oklahoma Bar Association and their Lawyers in the Classroom program, participated. Evans discussed methamphetamine and the myriad of dangers associated with drug use.

Eighth-graders are exploring careers during November and February. Linda Belknap, Autry Technology Center counselor, visited with students this week about how to keep records on activities, volunteer hours, job experiences and other items that will be used to develop a resume. Belknap will return Nov. 15 to help the eighth-graders take the Kudor Test. The Kudor Test will give the students an opportunity to explore different careers. Later in the year, students will take part in a career fair and job shadowing based on their test results.





Chisholm High School



The academic team won first place in their district competition Oct. 24. They will compete at a regional meet Nov. 12 in Drumright.

The girls cross country team won first and the high school boys were third at a regional meet. During state, the girls placed third and the boys finished seventh. The team will receive the distinguished academic plaque for having a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or better.

Chisholm FFA members Ryan Ball and Gabe Dunbar, both freshmen, placed first and second, respectively, at the Greenhand Quiz contest at Garber Oct. 18. Competing were Austin Hula, Jake Simpson, and Gabe Addington. Ball and Dunbar will represent the professional improvement group from the district at the state contest Monday in Stillwater.

October Students of the Month for Chisholm High School are Kayla Timmons, ninth; Adam Reitz, 10th; Shae Williams, 11th; and Kayla Schapansky, 12th.

Administrators said the nomination list was lengthy and the choice was very difficult. The students were chosen because over the course of the last month they demonstrated dedication to academics. Each student was nominated by a teacher based on a positive characteristic.

The October Teacher of the Month is Kathleen Reeves. Reeves was an easy choice because of her dedication to young people, principal Scot Trower said, adding she works "feverishly" behind the scenes without much notoriety.

"Personally I have not seen many teachers in my career that compare to her when it comes to being there for the kids," Trower said.

"As principal, my job would be much harder if not for teachers like Kathleen Reeves."

In a partnership with Golden Corral restaurant in Enid, student athletes of the month for October are Sara Murzynsky and Joseph Nixon.

Trower said donations for Make a Difference Day have been generous and work could not have been completed without the volunteers and donors.

Chick-fil-A will host Chisholm High School night from 5:30 to 8 tonight. A portion of the proceeds from sales will benefit Chisholm High School.
