Enid Young Professionals (EYP) have begun a new image campaign designed to give professionals ages 40 and younger more focused opportunities.
The group began as Greater Enid Young Professionals in early 2009. In the years since, it has hosted speakers from local groups such as Enid Rotary Club, Kiwanis and Leadership Oklahoma. Ryan Allen, EYP president, said the group always is evolving.
“The group gives young professionals in Enid a voice and the opportunity to get involved,” Allen said. “One thing remains clear about our group: We want to make Enid a better place to live.”
The group meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month at a different location. Aside from monthly meetings, the group also is involved in several Enid area projects and events, such as AmTrykes and the annual Cherokee Strip Days celebration activities.
Allen said the 2012 EYP board began the redefining process for the group.
“We are trying to figure how to provide more focused opportunities to the members and help them make an impact in the community,” Allen said.
The new image campaign also is designed to help bring more young professionals to the group and establish EYP as a long-term organization.
“Our group allows young professionals to connect with one another and support each other,” Allen said. “The image campaign will let people know who we are.”

Volunteers at Emmanuel Baptist Church stepped up to fill that gap with free ESL instruction last January, and now they have hopes of expanding the program to better serve the community.

Tutoring joy
Each Wednesday after school, church members pick up students — there are 23 in this year’s group — and take them to the church building for a snack, some fun and plenty of homework help.

In their own backyard
Shepherd’s Cupboard was started 13 years ago by then-pastor’s wife Tara Foos and a small number of church volunteers. With a small collection of donated and purchased food, the women of Bethany United Methodist began providing food weekly to about 12 people.
