NOC plans for the future

Northern Oklahoma College continues to work on its five-year strategic plan.

Two town hall meetings have been held at all three NOC campuses, in Enid, Tonkawa and Stillwater.

Another round of meetings will be held in January, and the goal is to come up with a plan for guiding the schools into the future, with the final plan to be released in April or May 2013.

Since its inception in 1999, Northern Oklahoma College Enid has steadily grown and now is an integral part of the community.

So far during the meetings, the strengths of the Enid campus have been  pointed out.

They include affordability, the astronomy program, the historic campus connected to Phillips University, and the Bridge Program with Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

NOC Enid — and NOC Tonkawa and NOC Stillwater, for that matter — has an important mission: to provide a good education at an economical price. And, it does that well.

Students can lay the groundwork for further studies during their two years at NOC, whether they go right out of high school or later in life.

It works regardless of whether they are full-time students or are part-time, going to classes when they can while working education around their jobs.

The Bridge Program with NWOSU is another great tool.

It allows students to transition seamlessly from NOC to NWOSU, where they can finish up their degree work.

It’s been a few years since NOC officials worked on strategic planning. We’re glad to see there has been participation from the community in the two sessions held so far.

It will be interesting to see the final result and what’s included in the plan. One thing we already know: The future is bright for NOC.
