Letter: Hoping the GOP keeps running on its platform

ENID, Okla. — Steve Fair summed up the presidential election by saying “It is not our platform that is the problem, it is the candidates we have been running.”

I really hope the GOP believes its anti-woman, anti-poor, anti-education, anti-science, anti-immigration reform, anti-gay rights, anti-climate change, anti-voting rights platform is just fine, and keeps running on it, because that would almost guarantee the closest they will get to the White House is on a visitor’s tour.

I also find it quite hypocritical for Gov. Fallin (and the GOP in general) to scream how they want to be able to implement programs at the state level, yet when given this very opportunity as pertains to the health care exchanges they then say “Nope, we are not going to do it; federal government you do it for us.” You have no right to complain about whatever form the exchanges take after the federal government does it for you.

As for using “too costly” as the reason Gov. Fallin turned down the opportunity to expand Medicaid, the reality is that the federal government will cover the total cost for Medicaid expansion for three years.

States that consent to the Medicaid expansion will receive funds to pay their residents’ health care bills, which could also reduce the number of hospitals and physicians left with uninsured patient bills.

The 100 percent match rate from the federal government will decrease after the first three years: In 2017, the federal government will pay 95 percent of the cost, and in 2020, the federal government will cover 90 percent of the bill.

It sure doesn’t sound like a “too costly” problem to me.

It sounds more like a “President Obama got re-elected and we are still bitter about it” problem.

Shouldn’t Gov. Fallin care more about getting Oklahomans health insurance rather than the results of the past election?
