Letter: Are parks, trails really a priority?

ENID, Okla. — To City Council members and citizens of Enid:

Yes, the parks and trails renovations are a great idea for the city of Enid. But, after the lack of rain the last several years, and the problems of last summer, are parks and trails really a priority?

Shouldn’t we take care of our older water system and the attendant problems before cosmetic changes?

Remember all the things we were told: Pipes not large enough for adequate water delivery, possibly needing to buy rights for more water wells, pumps that may need repairs under heavy use. Our basic need is water, not parks and trails.

If we vote for the parks plan and then the water system craters, what would we do then? Can we citizens really extend our personal budgets on parks and then be told we must pay for water concerns?

No family or city can have everything at once. I’m trying to prioritize my personal wants with my budget and there are many citizens doing the same thing. I suggest our city fathers reassess what is really a priority for the people who live in Enid.
